Cachi Excursion
Trip to Cachi (full day)
Cachi is a small, beautiful village located northwest of the Calchaquí Valleys. It rests on the eastern side of the "Nevado de Cachi", a massive 6720 meters high mountain. It is bordered by the Calchaquí river whichs is born not far from there, on the top of the "Nevado de Acay", another massive mountain reaching 5950 meters above sea level.
We begin our tour leaving the Lerma Valley, driving through different towns such as Cerrillos and La Merced until we reach El Carril where we take another road to Chicoana. We enter the Quebrada de los Laureles, visiting Escoipe where the movie "La Guerra Gaucha" was shot. After passing El Maray we reach the wonderful Cuesta del Obispo where we will enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Valle Encantado until we reach Piedra del Molino at 3348 meters over sea level, the highest point in the tour. You will not believe the view from there. We start going down through the Los Cardones national park where you will see thousands of cacti and other protected species. After passing by Payogasta, we will reach Cachi, famous for its archeological museum, cemetery and church.
